"Many
heroic exploits and chivalrous adventures are related to me
which exist only in the regions of fancy. With me the world has
taken great liberties, and yet I have been but a common man." ....Daniel Boone

Boone Family Resources
It has been said that more has been written about Daniel Boone than has been written about the father of our country, George Washington. Some have even speculated that if a study could be done, there may be more books and articles in the public domain about Boone than about any other person in our history
This of course leads to a lot of material that is highly inaccurate. What can we do? There are ways of determining which publications we can rely on for the most accurate information. A number of Boone researchers have spent large portions of their lives searching for the most reliable information and records available on the life of Daniel Boone. I listen to the voice of expertise and experience. This page will be a list of those resources that I have learned over the years provide the most reliable and most accurate information that we have to date.
This page is not meant to be a 'review of books' or anything of that nature - and no source is probably one-hundred percent correct. It is just those which, in my opinion, can be reliably helpful in researching the Boone family without fear of propagating false data. Part of the problem with erronious sources is that the information we take from them gets passed on. With so much written and published about Daniel Boone, that is one of the biggest issues we face. For instance, what is the first thing most people think of when they conjure up an image of Daniel Boone? A coonskin cap, right? Well, that is one of those tales that was written many many many years ago that is not true at all. Daniel Boone never wore a coonskin cap. There are other more serious ones of course. It is the goal of all Boone descendants and serious researchers to dispell some of those false rumors and work toward presenting a true and accurate account of the life of Daniel Boone and his family.
Daniel Boone, Master of the Wilderness, by John Bakeless, copyright 1939 & 1967. The most accurate and trustworthy book about Boone.
Now you can READ THIS BOOK through this website!
My Father, Daniel Boone, The Draper Interviews with Nathan Boone, Edited by Neal O. Hammon, University of Kentucky Press, copyright 1999. (This gets the other of my top ratings.)
Some Boone Descendants & Kindred of the St. Charles District, by Lillian Hays Oliver, copyright 1964. (Good reference source for Boone family genealogy.)
The Boone Family, Compiled by Hazel Atterbury Spraker, Originally published 1922, Reprinted several times beginning in 1974. (Also good reference source for Boone genealogy.)
For Children: I would like to recommend "Daniel Boone, Frontier Scout" by Tracy Borras,
published by Capstone Press as part of their "Let Freedom Ring" series. I am proud to say that I did
some of the photos for the book. You can see more about the book on
the Capstone Press website.
More to come. I have many Daniel Boone related books, but the above are the ones I most highly recommend.
If you know of good reliable Boone resources that I have not seen or that I failed to mention on this page, please let me know so I can look into them or add them here.
