In The Spotlight Two of our favorite people at The Historic Boone Home are Barney Combs, who often obliges us by portraying Col. Daniel Boone for our guests, and Robert Pecoraro who just as often does us the honor of portraying Boone's famous friend, John Filson. These two gentlemen have been giving of their time and talents at the Boone Home for a number of years now. They never complain even after seemingly endless hours of greeting, entertaining and educating the many vistors who pass through the museum-home. People delight in stepping into the large black-walnut trimmed drawing room of the Boone Home to find Col. Boone and his biographer, John Filson, waiting for them there. The two reenactors are always clothed in perfect period dress with true antique accessories. Barney and Bob happily share their knowledge of frontier life while demonstrating and explaining the authentic 18th and 19th century firearms and accoutrements brought from their own personal collections, giving our guests an opportunity to see, upclose, antiques that would rival any museum's treasured displays. Recently Barney and Bob were honored by the Governor of Kentucky when he presented each of them with an official commission recognizing them as Kentucky Colonels for their accomplishments and service to the community, state and nation. I am personally very proud to call these two wonderful men my friends and fellow historians. They are both passionate about our nation's history and nothing makes them happier than sharing that passion, especially with children and young people. Below are a few pictures I hope you will enjoy.
